Press Release Body: Six underprivileged children from Bosco Yuva Kendra, the Bangalore-based NGO for street children, were given the opportunity of a lifetime today. The smiles on the faces of these children won't be soon forgotten. As a part of their "Food For Good" programme, Pizza Corner, a speciality food service brand from Geneva based Global Franchise Architects (GFA), opened term deposits of Rs. 1 lakh each for 6 lucky children. This money will go towards their higher education.
"As part of Pizza Corner's Food For Good programme, we ensure a part of the money earned from every pizza goes into a fund for under privileged children. We launched this endeavour in 1998 and since then along with Bosco, we have identified deserving children every year. These children have had term deposits for Rs. 1 lakh opened in their names. These term deposits help fund their higher education after they have successfully passed their tenth standard examinations" says Joseph Cherian, Managing Director, Global Franchise Architects.
The smiles on the faces of Appu M, Suresh C, Keshava S M, Laxman D, Sathosh Kumar S, Manjunatha A., the six children from Bosco Yuva Kendra, continued long after they were given their cheques. Joining in on the festivities were 20 other children from Bosco as well as Shankar, a previous recipient of the award in 2003. Since then he has successfully completed his PUC and is studying for his B.Com. Present on this occasion, he was testimony to the fact that corporate social responsibility can make a difference to lives.
Speaking about his experience, Shankar said, "I'm thankful to Pizza Corner and Bosco for giving me this opportunity to follow my dreams. I never thought I would be where I am today."
The event was followed by a talent show by the Bosco kids, after which they relaxed and were entertained with a magic show and interactive games.
"At Pizza Corner, we really do believe in making a difference - which is why each of our outlets organizes community welfare activities, traffic handling near schools, distribution of toys and clothes among the underprivileged. Because it is about more than just Corporate Social Responsibility, it is about what we owe society," Added Joseph Cherian.
